making cookies

Making cookies is one of those things I always want to do at Christmastime.

And somehow no matter how much I plan, we always seem to be making cookies at the last minute.

So yesterday we made our first batch.

Butterscotch toffee shortbread cookies.

Sounds delicious...but you know what makes them better? When you include the vanilla the recipe calls for.

So today, was round two of cookie making. This time we made vanilla butter cookies.

Owen liked this recipe...and we remembered the vanilla.

The stocking cookie cutter somehow became a tractor and made tracks in our "construction site." Gotta love it.

These cookies turned out really well. I had good intent to ice the cookies. But when my helper dumped an entire container of cream of tarter in the mixing bowl with my last stick of butter, I knew it wasn't going to happen this year.

And then I had a little moment and I remembered grace. Christmas is so not about decorating the perfect cookies, it is about showing Christ's love.

It's about watching my two year old carry a tin of cookies to his neighbors to show them love.

It's about spending time with those you love...looking forward to this more than ever before.
