Last year I wrote a post about what my little guy was up to at 15 months old. A year later he is a two year 3 month old little active boy, and I am going to blink and he will be starting kindergarten. So what I want to remember about right now is....
I wake up every morning to his little voice calling for Mama from his bed.
He starts his day with something on his mind that he wants (fruit snacks this week).
He wants to snuggle with his mama while we get going leisurely.
He is such a snuggler. I take this for granted, but he is such a cuddle bug and we love that. He will say, "I little spoon, Daddy be big spoon."
He would play tractors all day, as long as I would play with him. "Wanna play tractor Mama?"
He loves to be outside. We play in the sandbox (with tractors and construction vehicles), in our little garden (with tractors), we look for fuzzy caterpillars, hit the baseball, color on the chalkboard...and then he sees Coop's poop in the yard. He is not ok with this and will ask you to remove it. If you are not fast enough, he will get you the shovel.
He can open all the doors with door knobs, and even turn the deadbolt on the back door. He will move chairs to get to whatever he can't reach. He is fast.
He is really good on his strider bike. He has great coordination.
He loves to dance. If music is on, he is probably dancing. He really likes you dance too, so dance parties are necessary.
He gets so excited when David gets home from work, and will run to the door and "Yay, Daddy's home!" David can make him laugh and giggle like no other. Love seeing them enjoy one another.
He loves to make crafts. He will ask to do crafts and is very particular about what he does. He really likes to glue things.
He loves to help me cook in the kitchen. His favorite thing to make is cookies. He pours in all the ingredients and then gets to lick the beater.
His favorite toy is Kevin the crane that goes with his Thomas trains. Kevin has a little "load" that is magnetized and he loves to play with this. We always have to find Kevin and his load. So now we have a back up Kevin for emergencies ; )
Owen could really care less about his stuffed animals in his bed. He sleeps with Kevin the train and/or tractors. At night he will play with Kevin before he goes to sleep.
He is a good sleeper! How wonderful is that...it wasn't always so easy, so we really appreciate this. Once we moved this summer and stayed home...it really was so good for him. At night we brush teeth, read a couple of books, say prayers, sing and then he gets in his crib, says "night night, Mama"....and goes to sleep. This is a blessing ; )
He tells you that he loves you. The sweetest words, "I love you, Mama. Mmm, mmm"
Sometimes he gets someone on his mind that he cares about and will tell you, " I wanna hold Meme", etc.
He is becoming such a big boy. I look at him and tell David, "He is so big." He sits with us at the big table in a big chair, he uses a napkin like us, he totally got this potty training thing down, he is just a little boy, not a baby.
About the only bit of baby left in him can be found when you can rock him to sleep at nap time. This still happens most days, not all. But it is sweet time. Rocking him in that chair, looking at that sleeping face. The same one that I have rocked from day one. I love him more and more everyday.
Yes, he makes me tired. Yes, he keeps me on my toes and very busy. He challenges me, he defies me, and he can get to me. It's funny how God can use your children to refine you. He teaches me so much, and I get the joy of having the most important job in the world in my view... I get to be his mama.
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Reflections on the First Year
Dear Owen,
It was one year ago today I held you in my arms for the first time. God blessed us with a beautiful baby boy.
It is hard to believe our baby boy is a year old.
It was one year ago today I held you in my arms for the first time. God blessed us with a beautiful baby boy.
It is hard to believe our baby boy is a year old.
You are curious.
You look at things, point, vocalize, and look to us to give you words and meanings as you discover the world around you.
You are fearless.
You will climb anything you can get your long legs over.
You love water. Love your bath . Love the pool, the ocean, and the water hose.
You have your daddy’s beautiful blonde hair.
You have some of your mama’s faces.
But your are Owen true and true. Your own self.
You never took a bottle. I was never away from you this whole year for more than a couple of hours.
You are a Mama’s boy. I am not just saying that because you are mine. Everyone would agree. And I kinda like it that way.
I have loved holding you in my arms and rocking you. Maybe this is one reason you were not a super fan of your bed to start with. But I just wanted to hold you and stare at you…so I did this for months and I have no regrets.
You do things on your own time. You rolled over, crawled and walked early. Although you took your time learning to eat and and sleep : )
As I look back over this past year, I see how much you have changed, grown, and learned in the course of just 12 months. But the thing is, you aren’t the only one who has changed this past year. Everyone says a baby will change your world. That is true. But my outside world did not just change… my heart, my desires, my prayers, my love changed. You showed me a deeper love for a person, than I have ever experienced. An unselfish love, an unconditional love, a never ending love. There is no one I have and would do more for than you. And as much as I love you, I know that God loves us more. Which boggles my mind. He teaches me to trust in him, rely on him, give him my worries, struggles, and weaknesses. I am not perfect and do not have all the answers, but God loves us anyway and he is where we get our true strength.
It is such a privilege and responsibility to be given a child from the Lord. You are such a blessing. You teach us and show us things everyday. It is so much fun to see the world through your eyes. A bird flying and landing to eat from the feeder, blades of green grass shooting up from the earth, the tide as it rolls in and out, the sand in your toes. I see so much beauty that God created through your eyes as you see his creation for the first time. What joy that brings!
You are blessed to have a Daddy that is so diligent in his work and is choosing a field that he can help others. He loves you so much and you are buddies. He makes you laugh like no other and you watch everything he does. He understands how much it meant to me to stay home with you and he gave me that privilege.
I honestly can’t imagine any better use of my time than staying with my son. Teaching him, showing him God’s world, spending time together and loving you every day.
