love day

I clearly have been watching too much Daniel Tiger on PBS when I begin to refer to Valentine's Day as love day : ) But it just seems more fitting this year.

Granddaddy sent love in the form of pizza...much appreciated to this pregnant mama.

Owen was super excited about his Valentine's party at school. Note all the handmade crafty valentines he received. I bought a box of pre-made valentines at the store and he was just as happy.

We went out for dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant Friday before Valentine's and we splurged on a red velvet cupcake for a special treat for this guy.

You know, Valentine's Day looks different during different seasons of life. We didn't even attempt to go out. We had no desire to. David had worked a week of nights (thankfully the last one of those!) and a night at home was what we wanted. The kids went to bed. We fired up the grill and had a peaceful dinner alone. It was perfect.

David grilled filets and made a blue cheese butter and I whipped up some twice baked potatoes and asparagus.

We finished with Pioneer Woman's lava cakes. David made them entirely on his own. They are delicious.

valentine's day

Well it was someone's first Valentine's day, so I couldn't resist.

And while the above valentine was feeling pretty chipper, the below was headed south and getting sick again.

Owen made me a beautiful card at preschool

The boy does love his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, clearly it's the way to his heart ; )

We did have some fun with a special delivery of a heart-shaped pizza from Granddaddy.

And as promised, I made Owen Valentine cookies.

David brought me tulips and even cooked dinner.

I could go on about a romantic perfect meal, but let's be real. Owen wasn't feeling good so he ate nothing and sat at the table with his police legos. Collin had no interest in sleeping and wanted to join the party as well.

So in between David getting checkout from the hospital and taking turns holding the baby while we cut our steak, we had a pretty good meal.

Owen has learned how to take pictures with my phone, besides being a little out of focus, he is pretty good.

I told David as we were sitting there eating that night, there truly was no place I would rather be. Even if we could have gone out, I was with the people I wanted to be with. My heart was very full and complete thanks to every guy at the table.

Valentine's Day

Who is to say Valentine's Day can't be fun in residency? We love to celebrate things around here. And if I can make me boys feel a little extra special, I will. David gave me those beautiful pink tulips. Tulips just make me happy.

And for Owen...well, we went a little outside the box for his Valentine's treat. The boy loves garbage trucks and we couldn't think of anything he would love more than his very own garbage truck.

He has yet to put that garbage truck down. You can bet that went to sleep with it and he has toted it around everywhere.

We may not have had a romantic dinner out for two, but we had a very lovely meal as a family of three last night and that is a big deal in itself. We were so glad David got to stay home with us and didn't go back in to the hospital last night.  David grilled filets accompanied by a blue cheese butter and loaded potatoes with asparagus.

And it wouldn't be valentine's without a few chocolate strawberries...

With the little one in bed, Mama and Daddy finished off that bottle of wine and sampled a few chocolates from our favorite french broad chocolates.

making hearts

We are getting into the Valentine's spirit around here,

especially when it involves paint.

He has diligently worked hard at making cards for some special people in his life,

naming the recipients of his cards by name.

I think the results were just lovely,

and I am pretty sure those receiving them will have a full heart as well.

valentines

We made a few valentines for our friends this year.

 one for Sam:

one for Ellie:

One for Daddy:

Brittany and I firmly believe in celebrating these little moments with our favorite little guys

 and favorite little gal.

These kiddos are sweet blessings. They change so fast. Just last year our babies were learning to crawl and now we are busy chasing them around. What fun it is though. Happy Valentine's Day friends!
