Round Top

It had been on our list of things we wanted to do while we lived in Texas. The Round Top Antique show is twice a year and the most well known being the spring when the bluebonnets are blooming. 

And finally resident work schedules and kiddos aligned and we were able to take the day and go with each other. I told Brittany that I could have spent the day in Walmart with her and been happy, but to have the day to our selves and be able to take our time and do something that we could only do here in Texas was really special. 

We had so much fun wandering the aisles and looking and chatting. We even found some treasures along the way. 

And met some characters as well. 

I really didn't know what to expect as far as the show was concerned. The Round Top Antique show consisted of the big red barn, and two tents outside as well as the Carmine Dance Hall down the road.  But all along the way up and down the road from their were plenty of places to stop and explore as well. 

I came home with two of my own treasures... an antique Chinese ginger jar and a little cheap copper pot ; ) 

I am so glad that we went. We will always remember going together and our time together was really sweet. Brittany understands this residency journey better than anyone. We have been on this road with our husbands and little boys and we always have plenty to talk about. So glad we were able to take some time and celebrate this season in Texas and the changes ahead. 

first flight

A week and a half ago we set out on our house hunt in Alabama. We chose to fly this time because traveling 12 plus hours in the car with little ones is not that much fun and is exhausting. 

We flew out of Waco to Dallas where we would then connect on a flight that took us to Montgomery. 

Not going to lie, after that short 20 minute flight to Dallas I was dreading the 2 hour flight to Montgomery. Collin had no intent of just sitting. We had pulled out every snack, book, iPad game and he was so restless. Little guy is a mover, so sitting still was hard for him. 

David lugged the car seats through the airport. We grabbed lunch at Chilli's and headed to the kid play area in the airport. (Such a great idea to have so kids can burn of energy before flights).

And then guess who we ran into? Ty and Brittany. Another time God intervenes and gives you just what you need. They were returning from their own trip from Alabama. It brought us each so much joy to see familiar faces who are in the exact same season of life as we are. They encouraged us, loved on our kids and even helped change a diaper...true friends.

We set off for Alabama. About the time the plane really got up and going I looked back and saw this sight: It was a beautiful thing to see. 

Owen was a pro at the whole traveling thing. 

He loved flying.

We were all thrilled to be on the ground in Alabama. 

Fort Worth

While we were adventuring outside of Waco, we thought we would make a big loop through Fort Worth on our way back home.  Owen and I had never been and it was something we wanted to see so David took us to see the stockyards first.

A good tip is most of the things to do seemed to be closed on weekdays. Like the petting zoo which is only open on the weekends. But Owen found these ponies that let us pet them.

Also the cowboys do a cattle drive at 11:30 and 4:30. We missed this by probably 15 minutes.

But we found the longhorns behind the exchange building.

We took a stroll through the stock yards. 

And then decided it was time for lunch. We drove over to the Woodshed Smokehouse along the Trinity River. 

Chef Tim Love pays homage to all things grilled, roasted, and slow cooked featuring a daily rotating selection of beef, lamb, pork, cabrito, wild game, fish and vegetables all cooked over a variety of woods and fire sources. 

We started with smoked hummus and camp bread. We are hummus fans and this was the most flavorful  and delicious we have ever had. That smoky garlicky flavor just really kicks it up a notch.

I had the tacos with bulgogi beef and house kimchi. It is a Korean style beef that is sweet and spicy. The picture does not do the flavor justice. It was amazing.

David opted for the Butcher's sandwich with brisket, pulled pork and elk sausage. 

The Mexican corn was also a huge treat with the cotija cheese.

and we had to finish with something sweet…chocolate pie with a roasted marshmallow meringue topping. 

Definitely recommend the Woodshed. It is near the Fort Worth Zoo if you are in that area.

We had a great trip. Saw things we had never seen. Had fun with our kids and made some new memories and ate some delicious food along the way. 

Legoland

It's no secret that Owen loves legos. They are his favorite. So a stop at Legoland was definitely on our list for this guy.

and they show you how legos are "made" and let you help in the process. 

 There was a little ride that he and David rode and fought some bad guys, then we entered an open area where there was giant play structure equipped with a fire academy playground. Owen loved it.

 But then he was just as thrilled in his happy place building Legos. 

Pictures lined the walls built with Legos. 

 He had a great time driving these police cars 

 and getting bad guys. 

They had Star Wars displays made of Legos.

And of course we made a stop in the Lego store. Owen had a blast. We stayed there 3 hours, Collin napped in the ergo, a great time had by all!
