This was a new one...we began our anniversary about 5 AM as we piled on layers of warm clothes and camo and headed to woods.
The day before when I asked David, "What if I go hunting with you?"...I don't think he really thought I was serious, but I was. See something happens when you don't get to spend that much time with your husband (just the two of you)...that it makes you want to take whatever time you can get.
So if that meant sitting in the woods, in freezing temps and 16mph winds watching the sun come up...I was there.
It would have been nice to sit next to him instead of on the ground while he was in a tree stand above me...but hey, I will take what I can get. It was a very peaceful way to start our day.
After about and hour and a half of cold and no wildlife in sight...we made the executive decision to head to Waffle House. That may have been the best coffee I have ever had...seriously. I think we drank two pots easily.
And as luck would have...our friend Jess just happened to be passing through Greenville and he joined us for breakfast. Jess was in medical school with David and went to the Dominican Republic with us on a mission trip. He is a great guy and we really enjoyed getting to catch up and hear how Orthopedic surgery residency is treating him down in Mobile.
David and I continued the anniversary celebration at Ruby Tuesdays in Greenville, again it was really not about the food or the restaurant...we just really enjoyed a peaceful meal just the two of us.
This time last year we were interviewing for residency, traveling to different cities, praying and thinking about what the next year would hold.
I am reminded of just how faithful God is. How he has provided...how even in the past 7 months I feel closer to my husband and more like our own family unit.
An old classmate came up to the table while we were eating that night and told our waitress we were celebrating 147 year together. It hasn't been quite that long. We have been a together since we were 14. And in some ways, we are the same people....but in alot of ways we aren't...and that is good too.
I am so grateful that God blessed me with David. I am proud of the man he is. I am proud of how faithful he is to me. I am proud of how deeply he loves me and Owen.
Happy 5 years of marriage David!
