Happy Fourth

We had a fun day celebrating the Fourth of July. So thankful to live in the country we do and thankful to all of those who serve and have served to allow us to have the freedom we do.

We got an early start Wednesday morning, we had heard great things about about the parade in Belton, Tx. It is apparently one of the 10 best places to fly your flag on the Fourth of July...so we had to see it for our own eyes.

The first parade was held in 1850 and became an annual event in 1919.

(This is apparently the job you get when you don't obey the laws of Belton)

Owen was entranced by the sites of the parade and proudly waved his little flag at everyone who walked by.

One of our favorites in the parade was this group:

The kind folks behind us were kind enough to explain "the rest of the story."

Apparently Dr. Bill was once a doctor in Belton. Each year he would ride in the parade and pull behind him children he had delivered as a physician. Now Dr. Bill's son proudly drives the tractor.

I guess it is no surprise which part of the parade was Owen's favorite?

We really enjoyed the parade. We sat near the end on a little hill under a tree. We were in the shade the entire hour and a half the parade went on...it was one long parade but Owen enjoyed every second of it.

And it wouldn't be the Fourth of July without wishing Pop a very happy birthday. Pop turned 95 this year and is such a strong example of a Godly man who loves his family. He is a blessing to all that know him.
