When Owen woke up Easter morning, I told him it was Easter and we talked about what that meant and went through our Jesus Storybook Bible.
He understands more this year. A few weeks ago, we were on our way to "church school" and this was our conversation:
Owen: Look Mama, a cross!
Me: I see Buddy
Owen: Jesus died on the cross for us.
And he was hurt,
but he didn't stay hurt.
He came out.
Me: That's right Buddy.
I was so thankful that seeing a cross made him think about Jesus and what he did for us. Maybe more is sinking in than I think some days.
We did Easter baskets.
This little guy woke up an joined in the fun while he gnawed on this hands.
Then we tried to get ourselves fed, dressed and to church. Why that was so difficult, I do not know. We still were 10 minutes late to church, but we were there.
I loved that our preacher brought this up. How we scramble around Easter morning, dress up in our nice clothes, try to get a good family picture, kids are wired on candy and we are weary by the time we make it through those church doors.
But he said that's the way it's supposed to be. We are not perfect. We do not have it all together. That's why we need Jesus, that's why we need the cross. We come weary and He is there.
We don't have that "perfect" family picture this year. David was working Sunday. It just wasn't in the cards for us.
So that is my family picture. Collin was basically asleep and Owen was over taking pictures.
Not perfect, but ever needing the cross…and that's what Easter is truly about.
