MeMe Comes to Play

While David was gone to Kansas City for a Family Medicine Conference to scope out residency programs, MeMe came up to Huntsville to play with me and Owen. She stopped along the way in Clanton where she picked up some fresh peaches, baby new potatoes, peas, corn, and watermelon. The cute little basket reminded her of Pop and the potatoes he would grow in his garden.

We cooked up all the goodies she brought. Even tried my hand at mini peach pies. I had a left over Pet-Ritz pie crust so I cut strips to make my topping and used some ramekins to hold all the goody! My filling: 3 fresh peaches, half the juice of a lemon, a little lemon zest, a sprinkle of sugar, nutmeg, and grated cinnamon. Topped that with layers of crust and brushed with egg wash.  And you know...it was really good!

Owen loves when Meme comes to visit. He definitely knows her and lights up when he sees her. These two are buddies for sure! They read, they play, they eat snacks, and rock to sleep. I love to see them together because I know they are both so happy.

While my mom was here we hit up all of our favorite places. We had lunch at Lyn's Gracious Goodness. I had their farmer's market plate with peas, green beans, tomato tart and fried okra. They had a man playing guitar and Owen was entranced. The boy really loves music. The man came over to our table and played a song about a monkey just for Owen. He said maybe he would be a picker like him one day. Such a nice man. We also hit up Shea's Express for their jazz brunch.

We had so much fun while you were here Meme. Thanks for letting this Mama sleep in a little bit, run some errands, and listen to birthday party shenanigans. We always enjoy our time with you. Love you!
