Fourth of July

This past weekend we were in Greenville for the weekend of the Fourth of July. It has been a long time since we had both been home. David was busy with his Internal Medicine rotation at the first of the summer, and now he is in his second week of his Surgical rotation. He is traveling to a hospital in Decatur every day to work with a general surgeon there. He is really enjoying this rotation and is getting to do alot of hands-on work and getting good experience.

But it was nice to get away and see everyone at home, probably the last trip before the baby comes. Friday night was spent at David's house with his family. We enjoyed a great dinner and the company of Ben, Julie and her family and David's parents. Saturday night we went over to Gammy's. Dock surprised everyone by making the trip home from California! We hoped he might be able to come home, but were not sure when and if he would. So it was great to have everyone there eating dinner on the porch. Gammy makes the best fried shrimp ever...seriously, no one cooks them the way she does. Caroline made a fabulous 3 layer chocolate cake....she has learned to master Gammy's recipe! Dock even played his violin for everyone, he has been taking lessons in Eureka, Ca. He is planning to stay here until the baby is born...which makes me very happy!

Sunday was the Fourth of July. Ms. Peggy had us over for a cookout at her house. The food was wonderful...everything a "picnic" (as Sarah called it) should include: watermelon, baked beans, potato salad, deviled eggs, burgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings, strawberry cake, brownies, and homemade milky way ice cream! We had enough food to feed an army! David and Andy put of a great fireworks show for us once it got dark. Sarah wasn't too sure about the fireworks....a little loud. Cooper wasn't thrilled about them either : ) All in all,  it was a great weekend to spend with family.

The Fourth of July is also special for another reason, it is my grandfather (Pop's) birthday. We weren't able to make the trip to Jackson since we went the weekend before, but they had a great celebration for him. Dock surprised them by showing up, which was a great surprise for them. Pop turned 93 this year. He was born in 1917. He really does really well and is such a special person to many people. I hear they stayed out at the camp until 10:15 at night playing Rook! That shows you how well they are still doing. Gotta watch my grandmother...she likes to win!....probably where I get that from: ) Happy Birthday Pop!
