It's a busy month, December always is.
Full of Christmas parties, activities, and for us a busy work month for David.
This is his last month of OB rotation, which is a lot of long hours and he must take call from the hospital. Owen and I have lots of quality time together. Saturday we went to the Hewitt Christmas parade, just down the road from our house.
Small parade, but he loved it. It was cold.
Sunday, our preacher was talking about giving more as part as part of his sermon series on Advent Conspiracy.
Not reaching in your pockets and giving more to charity or the church, but giving more of yourself and quality time.
He gave a couple of examples of how people were doing this. Like a man giving his dad a bag of coffee beans and telling his dad he could only drink that coffee when they were together. He wanted to spend that time with his father learning how to be a leader and man of God like his dad.
Or giving a book to brother in law and reading it with him to build their relationship closer.
But the idea is, it's not the stuff. It will never be enough. What we ultimately want as humans is time, proximity, presence, attention. We want someone to be in this with us. He talked about putting down that iPhone/media device and really invest in relationships.
And I think that is a big part of what I will miss this Christmas. That quality time with family. The stuff you can't wrap up and send USPS to Waco. The quality time with each other.
But I am really going to try to dig deeper and embrace our little family even harder. We are celebrating Jesus's birthday. That's what I keep trying to get in Owen's head…maybe I need to get it in my own.

Looking forward to this weekend, we have some much due family time. Looking forward to that quality time together.
