a visit to Charleston

We just got back from a lovely visit to the beautiful city of Charleston, SC. It was just the two of us...for the first time since Owen has been born. That's right, this mama had not been away from her baby for more than a few hours in 16 months. I knew he would be in good hands staying with Meme. My mom emailed me before the trip and reminded us to enjoy ourselves. " You've forgotten how to and that you can." I was taken back a little when she said that, but it really was true. We really enjoyed the time just being together, not having to worry about schedules, naps, mealtimes or really anything but just us. And I really had forgotten what that was like. It was so refreshing and rejuvenating.

the weather could not have been more gorgeous

the room was beautiful and hotel located in a perfect location

I feel I should add that the room was much appreciated especially after our first trip to Charleston. Just after we got married and I graduated from grad school, we took a trip to Savannah and Charleston. Well, that was our first real trip together and our travel styles were a bit different. Putting down expenses spent in an excel document at the end of the day and sharing a bathroom with another couple....were not my ideas of celebrating completion of grad school.

So David did this trip us right. Beautiful hotel and he let me enjoy the entire trip without hesitation. Much appreciated and a far cry from sharing a bathroom!

We fully embraced the city and all the cuisine it has to offer.

 fried green tomato BLT from:

we wandered around in the market

strolled the streets and Rainbow Row

found a hot date

who took me to Peninsula Grill

and celebrated 4 years as husband and wife

or 13 years together whichever way you want to look at it.

And no trip is complete to Charleston without Shrimp and Grits...

and the reason for the trip was to interview for residency...forgot to mention that.
That went well too : )

We have more to share including some family history in Charleston!
