My Pop was welcomed into heaven Sunday, May 5th, 2013. He lived a long life of 95 years and his body was tired. He had worked hard and he did well and it was finally time to go home.
My Pop was born on the fourth of July in 1917. He was the oldest of 7 children.
He never went to college, but he easily could have...he was such a smart man.
He married my grandmother December 29, 1938...they were married for 74 years.
He worked in the logging industry his entire life. From the days that mules were used in logging to working side by side with his two sons in the business.
He worked hard, he loved the land and he loved his family.
My Pop was a quiet man unless it was something he was interested in, such as his land, hunting or family...he had a passion for each of those.
He was a humble man, which I greatly admire.
He was an excellent example of patience, kindness and peace.
He was the peacemaker in his family.
He loved my grandmother and his actions quietly displayed what love looks like in a Christian marriage.
He loved his garden and loved the flowers just like Grandmama. They always had beautiful roses. He would often pick day lilies or a camellia and bring them in for her to enjoy just for that day. He would take coffee to her in bed

He was always right behind her in the kitchen washing dishes as she cooked.
She never asked...
She never asked...
he just did it because he loved her. He had a servant's heart.
(me sitting on their back steps next to roses from their garden)
He could fry some of the best catfish.
He might pick on you...but that meant he liked you.
I know his brothers, my dad or cousin probably have their own stories they will remember about Pop,
but this great man made a lasting impression on me.
The last day I talked to him, he was close to going home. He told me he loved me, he stroked my face and squeezed my hand.
I told him that I loved him and that he had done a good job.
He had.
I know his son, my Uncle Jerry, was there to welcome him into heaven...I can only imagine the fun they must be having together.

So sorry for your loss... That last picture of his and Owens hands brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful.
